For music, we did quite a lot. At the start of the unit, our main focus was on researching about the ragtime music, then create a poster for it, we learned and understood a bunch of new stuff like what exactly it is, when and where it was invented, who created rag time music, and differences and similarities between rag-time and other music. Me and my partner i am working with - Sambath also had a little bit of understanding about the note for rag-time music, after this activity.

We also learned how to play a rag-time song with piano, we had a partner to work with, we shared the part each of us are going to play then practice playing it, we needed to work quite cooperatively in order to play properly and to make the song matched with each other when both of us are playing. After 2 classes of practice, we were ready to go, Ms. Bay assessed us as we played in front of her. It was a definitely a great experience.

After piano, we then started our guitar unit, we learned how to tune our guitars, the notes, and learned to play some simple songs. Working with our opposite gender was quite a challenge for some of us, but i think it should be pretty helpful in terms of improving our cooperation skills and make us feel more mature.
We also had a test about rag-time music. Basically, we got to listen to a couple of different music then answer the questions in the test sheet. Having this test enhanced my skills toward recognising more instruments and having better understanding about the beats and melody.

2015 Grade 8 - Music
Unit 1
Title Of Piece: Western Wind Music
Key Concept: Form
Global Contexts: Personal And Cultural Expression
Statement Of Inquiry:
How and why are Western Wind instruments so different from those of other cultures?
In this unit, we practiced and performed two different music pieces, one was playing an instrument, which I chose a recorder, but due to some issues such as not having the book for it, Ms. Bei decided that people who chose recorder can play piano instead. So I learned piano and presented during the assessment date. It was great, but I personally think that I can improve if I control my nerve better when performing, so that I don't make unnecessary mistakes. Another skill I can work on is to learn to recover quickly after making a mistake.

Group Performance For Creativity Night:
At the meantime, we also worked with our chosen group to prepare for the creativity night, my group and I are singing the song "Stereo Hearts" By Gym Class Heroes Ft Adam Levine. At first, we were really struggling to match the tone and the instrument's pace, but gradually, we got better and better from practice.
